Hi there FYI that Blake deep reading link isn’t working for me (I’m new round these parts and stumbled across your piece on that, loved it, want to explore, and keeping my ear to the ground)

Thanks so much for letting me know! Just fixed it. There'll be more info about the Blake offering coming out tomorrow. So glad you enjoyed the piece! x

"Pretty sure Hildegard of Bingen never had to say things like this" 😂😂😂

Intrigued to see the Bollingen logo not once but twice in that small pile of books... and it made me realise that (ever since I foolishly gave away my complete works of Plato) I don't have a single Bollingen publication on my shelves; I should probably remedy that. Jung has been on my mind LOTS lately, and 2 weeks ago I discovered a jaw-dropping synchronicity relating to something that happened to me as I stood by the Orphan Stone in the garden at Bollingen in 2019.

Now then, did I submit Jung as the topic of a 297-word essay? I think I probably did, but it can't hurt to stick him in there again, right?

... *what* compelled you to give away your complete works of Plato, Dan?!

Definitely can't hurt to stick Jung in there again. You probably won't be surprised to hear that he's already in there a few times.

My books outgrew my bookshelves, and I had already made a couple of attempts at reading it without getting very far, and decided that I would never manage it. As so often happens when I get rid of books, within a couple of years I was kicking myself. I very rarely get rid of books anymore, shelf-space be damned!

That sounds very wise. I got rid of about 200 before moving into my current place, but they were all accidental acquisitions from years working in and around publishing.

I think Plato is asking to come back into your life.

Hmm, could be... although I currently find myself more interested in the pre-Platonics, and I was kinda rude about him a while back: https://peakrill.substack.com/p/in-an-ideal-world

(But, yes, he's one of many philosophers I've been wanting to get to know better)

Wonderful suggestion Eleanor. Can I suggest another writer for your list? Just reading Provincialising Europe by Dipesh Chakbrabry. This writer explores the interplay between colonial consciousness and native Bengali traditions. 'Reason becomes elitist whenever we allow unreason and supersitious to stand in for backwardness'. He has some fascinating insights into what happens to someone's consciousness from a native background when they become 'educated' and thus taught to despise their origins, and how treating the past as a 'standing reserve' is a mistake. This is hopeful because it shows to me that even in academic circles our current racinoated conciousness is being questioned.

I'm interested in Blake, but as I'm off to Ireland tomorrow for a few days, might be off the radar for a bit. Pls count me in though ;)
